Mikhail has extensive professional experience in criminal law and many years of practice representing clients in court and during preliminary investigations.

His practice includes acquittals; the discontinuation of criminal cases at the investigation and inquiry stages on exonerating grounds; and numerous cases discontinued following reconciliation with victims or the expiry of limitation periods. It also includes relief from punishment on other non-exonerating grounds, including the imposition of a judicial fine. The most recent such outcomes were achieved in 2026.

Kommersant has recognised Mikhail Timoshatov among the leading practitioners in intellectual property (Band 1). PRO IN LAW was ranked in Band 2 for criminal law, a practice led within the association by Mikhail.

From investigative work to advocacy

Mikhail began his formal legal career with the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. This gave him a thorough understanding of criminal prosecution, investigators’ working methods and the reasoning behind decisions made by law-enforcement authorities.

This experience helps him identify and challenge procedural violations and defend clients in complex criminal cases, including economic and public-office offences.
